The fine sandy dog beach slopes very gently, making it suitable even for small dogs. The dog section is not completely stone-free, but still safe for playing. Parking is available nearby, though the walk to it can be a bit strenuous. We were impressed by the great view from the beach. The dog beach is not too big but ideal for dogs to play.

An unattractive part of the coast has been designated as a dog beach here. Other holiday destinations on the Baltic Sea coast do this significantly better. Between Kronsgaard and Pottloch, there is a wide, beautiful dog beach. The coarse sandy beach between the two towns allows for a shallow entry into the water. The water gently slopes for many meters, so dogs who just want to splash and not swim can also have fun. Here, for €2/day, there are parking spaces, a café, a restaurant, and clean toilets. Snacks like fries, bratwurst, and drinks are available in standard quality. The dog beach section with beach chair rental is not very crowded and is located next to a nudist beach. Here, holidaymakers will find a clean dog beach with fine sand! Beach chairs can be rented, remember to bring small change for vending machines. There is no general leash requirement here.

In the municipality of Brodersby, short-term holidaymakers are offered two fine sandy, decentralized dog beaches. Unfortunately, the beaches are covered with algae and stones. Clean beaches look different. Poop bag dispensers can be found here at the tourist information center and on the beach promenade, far from the action. Important: Dogs are only allowed on the two designated dog beaches. Dogs are also not allowed off-leash in the children's playground. Cafés and restaurants are located on the promenade, therefore not in immediate proximity. Unfortunately, no shade from vegetation in midsummer, and no trash cans for poop bags nearby. Aside from the lack of snack and beverage options, as a dog owner, you feel marginalized here.

Northeast of the state capital Kiel lies Eckernförde Bay, with a seawater wave pool and other tourist attractions. Approximately 160 meters of the roughly 5-kilometer-long southern beach section are designated as an off-leash dog beach. This sandy beach, which is free of visitor's tax, is uncrowded, gently sloped, pleasantly shallow as it enters the clear water, and offers plenty of space for frolicking. Beach chairs are available. Unfortunately, there is no dog shower, only a water hose for rinsing off. Dog-friendly dining and restrooms are a short distance away; guests are best advised to bring a picnic basket as well. Adjacent parking is available. There is no leash requirement, but due to the immediate proximity to the federal highway, a reliable recall is essential!

Weißenhäuser Dog Beach

At this dog beach in Schleswig-Holstein, you'll find not only the white sand beach for swimming, running, and playing, but also numerous accommodations for a short break with your dog. Around the beach, there are also idyllic lakes, meadows, and villages that can be explored with your dog. Weißenhäuser Strand is located in the Bay of Lübeck and offers plenty of space for four-legged friends to romp around. Here, you can enjoy a short holiday in Schleswig-Holstein with the whole family.

The holiday park Weissenhäuser Strand with its hotel and holiday home/apartment complexes has visibly aged. The holiday park, built between 1971 and 1973, has 1,200 rental units (!) including tourist infrastructure for snacks and gastronomy as well as a supermarket for small purchases. Public parking spaces are subject to a fee and can be used outside the holiday park to access the beach as a day guest via the publicly accessible area. It is the location that makes a Baltic Sea holiday at Weißenhäuser Strand attractive. Weißenhäuser Strand consists of a kilometer-long, fine sandy beach, but large parts of the beach are reserved for two-legged visitors. A small section of the beach is designated for dog owners.

The dog beach at Weißenhäuser Stand is a natural beach, not well-maintained. It is located next to the holiday park, in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. Looking out to sea, the dog beach is at the eastern (right) end of the publicly accessible beach. This natural beach is open to dogs, but dog owners are second-class guests here. If you want to walk along the dike with your dog and are not looking for water or beach access, you can book a relaxed and affordable Baltic Sea holiday here in the low season. There are two special features here at the Weißenhäuser Dog Beach:

• a Bundeswehr training ground is nearby. Occasional gunfire can be heard, so a holiday at Weißenhäuser Dog Beach might not be a good idea for noise-sensitive or anxious dogs.
• in the off-season, music festivals with up to 5,000 visitors take place in the holiday complex - it gets louder here

On the cliff coast of the bay, there is another, albeit unofficial, dog beach where four-legged friends can run around without any problems.

The town of Heiligenhafen, whose center is the harbor, is located directly in front of the island of Fehmarn. Heiligenhafen is known for its fresh fish and numerous fishing boats. The resort has been given a new splendor by the generously designed marina with a promenade. The resort itself is divided into the fishing harbor, the old town with a pedestrian zone and historic town hall, the inland lake, and the newly created marina with a promenade and pedestrian zone.

Each area of the resort offers plenty for dogs to discover. The Baltic Sea resort of Heiligenhafen is a paradise for dog holidays on the Baltic Sea. Heiligenhafen is dog-friendly like hardly any other resort on the Baltic Sea. This is reflected in the number of four-legged friends: the majority of tourists stroll through the pedestrian zone with their dogs.

Heiligenhafen offers charm and all imaginable amenities for dogs: from dog blankets in restaurants, dog coats for chilly evenings in outdoor dining areas, treats when the owner gets fish, and clean water bowls every few meters. At the dog beach, there are beach chairs for rent, various restaurants and snack bars, as well as toilets and parking within a few minutes' walk. Dog toys and accessories are available at the beach chair rental.

In Heiligenhafen, the paths to the dog beach are short. Following the pedestrian zone from the marina harbor, the path leads directly to the well-known pier. To the left, immediately next as an alternate beach section, is the Heiligenhafen dog beach.

The dog beach of the offshore peninsula of Heiligenhafen is thus located east of the DLRG main station. The path, fine and sandy, leads over a wooden walkway to the dog beach section.

A first glance at the Heiligenhafen dog beach makes you wonder why this algae-covered, stony dog beach, strewn with shell fragments, has so many fans. It's not clean here; algae collects in the shore area. Large stones are not only found in the sand but also in the water. There is a risk of injury for dogs playing, so it's important to pay attention to where they play.

Those who spend some time at Heiligenhafen dog beach discover the special flair that makes this dog beach so appealing. A harmonious atmosphere reigns here, which hardly any other Baltic Sea dog beach radiates. The absence of a leash requirement contributes positively to this. Short distances to the beach bar with cool drinks, a state-of-the-art infrastructure, a young, open-minded audience, and culinary delights in the pedestrian zone make this a beloved holiday destination.

Poop bag dispensers, toys, filled water bowls, and shady spots. Two- and four-legged vacationers will be completely happy here.

Even away from the dog beach, the holiday destination has a lot to offer. Dogs love the sandy beach at Binnensee, despite the leash requirement. This is regrettable for water dogs who are afraid of the Baltic Sea surf. A small area for swimming in the Binnensee without a leash requirement would round off the dog offerings. However, a walk around the Binnensee (approx. 6 km) is definitely worthwhile. The shore areas are well-maintained and attractively designed.

Kellenhusen Dog Beach

The dog beach of the Baltic Sea resort of Kellenhusen is located almost 20 kilometers north of Neustadt in Holstein and lies in the Bay of Lübeck. The beach section for dogs is at the end of the beach promenade. Parking fees and visitor's tax apply. The beach section is 400 meters wide and offers beach chair rental and various leisure activities on the beach promenade. A paradise for furry friends, the beach and water are clean, and dogs can play without a leash. In the immediate vicinity, there is a clean public toilet, and at the Surf-Point, there is good coffee, ice cream, small snacks, and cold drinks.

Kellenhusen dog beach is a great beach for romping and relaxing, but there is a lot of gravel on the North Beach. The South Beach looks more Caribbean and wonderfully wide. Each beach has its advantages, a good mix of areas with rentable beach chairs and open spaces for dogs to let off steam. The dog beach is recommended early in the morning, then holidaymakers with dogs are among themselves and can play and train wonderfully. In the evenings, the beach is beautifully lit, and during the day, it is enhanced with a few small bathing islands with jumping facilities and hammocks. Unfortunately, there is no water point for dogs, and dog showers would also be desirable.

Grömitz

Grömitz is one of the best addresses when it comes to holidays with dogs on the Baltic Sea coast. Although Grömitz is one of the oldest seaside resorts on the Baltic Sea, the resort quickly recognized that holidays with dogs attract a group of visitors who like to travel more often but also expect something in return. Two dog beaches were set up in Grömitz, creating the best conditions for a holiday with a dog in Grömitz. The dog beaches in Grömitz are among the most beautiful dog beaches on the Baltic Sea. Thanks to its dog-friendliness, it is not difficult to book a hotel with a dog in Grömitz.

• At the North Beach near Schlemmerland, approx. 400 meters wide and with beach chairs for rent

Dog Beach I in Grömitz: Lensterstrand

The dog beach is located at the northern end of Grömitz towards "Lensterstrand". Even though the dog beach is at the end of Grömitz's long beach promenade, dog owners are not relegated to the fringes here as in other Baltic Sea resorts. Connection to the center of Grömitz is available; it's not far to Grömitz's first restaurants and shops. From the dog beach, you can already see the first restaurants and bars.

Parking is available at the Ostseeklinik Grömitz. From there, a dirt path leads through the adjacent small forest directly to the dog beach. There are also various paid parking options along the promenade with direct access.

A fee (visitor's tax) is due for using the beach, including the dog beach. Machines are available on the promenade. The visitor's tax can also be paid to the beach attendant. In addition to beach chairs, dog toys are also available here.

The attractively designed beach promenade runs along the coast for approx. 3.6 kilometers and is wonderfully suited for a walk with a dog. Here on the promenade, as well as generally outside the dog beach, dogs must always be kept on a leash. Understandably, it's also busy here. Since Grömitz is a dog-friendly place, dogs are allowed in almost all restaurants and shops. Poop bag dispensers are sufficiently available on the promenade.

 

As on the "beach for holidaymakers without four-legged friends", it is also possible to rent beach chairs at Grömitz dog beach. Dogs are allowed to romp around off-leash at the dog beach and there is enough space to play.

The division of the area into beach chair zones and play zones has been excellently implemented in Grömitz. From the beach chair, dogs can be watched playing in the play zone.

Between October and March, dogs are allowed to use the other beach areas in Grömitz, but during peak season, these areas are off-limits for dogs - even on a leash. Drinking water for dogs is available at the beach entrance; the beach chair rental attendant has the key. Restaurants and toilets are about 150 meters away. The shallow entry into the water is ideal for four-legged friends and small children.

The Lensterstrand dog beach is located in the Lenste district of Grömitz. This natural dog beach has no further infrastructure. Romantic dune landscapes, bird sanctuaries, and the natural beach characterize the natural beach. The sandy beach is a few hundred meters from restaurants and toilets. Beach chairs are not available for rent. Instead, pure nature awaits you. Nearby there is also the "Sonnenland" campsite, which can also be visited by guests with dogs. In the immediate vicinity there is a FKK beach area, a free parking lot, and a campsite where dogs are also welcome. The natural beach right on the Grömitz cliff is ideal for sniffing with its numerous caves, trees & roots.

Fehmarn Dog Beach

The sunny island of Fehmarn is considered a dream destination on the Baltic Sea for dog holidays. At least, that's how Fehmarn marketing describes the island's possibilities. Fehmarn, as Germany's sunniest island, has no less than four designated dog beaches where dogs can relax on holiday. On Fehmarn, four-legged friends are guaranteed to be welcome. Fehmarn is known as "the dog-friendly Baltic Sea island". We tested all dog beaches on Fehmarn. We wanted to know exactly - is Fehmarn the dog paradise on the Baltic Sea? We quickly realized that a dog holiday here is no fun. Read our Fehmarn dog beach test below!

Fehmarn Südstrand (no dog beach)

One thing you should know if you're thinking about a holiday with a dog on Fehmarn: the tourist center and, to some extent, the island's capital is Burg. Burg is located in the south of the island. A historic and picturesque town at the same time, through which traffic crawls in jams and at walking pace. The column of traffic is interrupted by streams of tourists who, due to overcrowding of the pavements, often resort to the road and slow down traffic. We had to cut short our walk through the crowded town of Burg for the sake of the dogs after about two hours. The situation in high season is not acceptable even for calm four-legged friends.

From the center of Burg, you can reach the holiday center in the south in about 5 minutes by car, followed by the two dog beaches of Meeschendorf. The holiday center in the south is the island's actual tourist center and is formed by the IFA holiday park. "Sleeping, feasting & slowing down by the sea, IFA Fehmarn makes it possible." That's the advertising slogan. It sounds cute and tempting, but it isn't. The holiday park, built in the style of Brutalism (a modernist architectural movement), is showing its age. Around the gigantic high-rise buildings, a small but inexpensive infrastructure has sprung up, like the kind you know and fear from big cities.

The majority of holidaymakers who have pushed through the town of Burg are therefore accommodated here.

Anyone who follows the island's advertising slogan and looks forward to a great dog beach will be disappointed. Dogs are not allowed on the fine sandy, white beach. Only walking on the promenade is allowed with a leash. If you follow the promenade for about an hour on foot, you will reach the Meeschendorf dog beach. Before we go into the test of the Meeschendorf dog beach, we wanted to report on a heartbreaking scene that we actually experienced during our test. A young family with two children and two Labrador dogs had just arrived and were looking forward to the beach. The children were happy when they saw the playground on the beach and ran towards it. The omnipresent prohibition signs with a crossed-out dog in front of the beach entrance made the family call the children back. "The playground is not possible here, [dog name] and [dog name] are not allowed." Clearly, dogs are not allowed on the South Beach, i.e., not on the beach in the tourist center of the holiday island. We walked past with our dogs and were asked if we knew where the beach access for dogs was. "Of course, about 1 hour's walk in that direction. But there's no playground there." Both children started to cry, and the family, visibly dejected with a stroller and two dogs, started the walk to the dog beach. Is this what Fehmarn marketing understands by "the dog-friendly Baltic Sea island"?

Meeschendorf Dog Beach

The dog beach Meeschendorf is located in the southern part of the island of Fehmarn. On this dog beach, as everywhere on Fehmarn, leashes are compulsory. One of the sections for dogs is located approx. 100 meters west of the Meeschendorf beach car park. The beach is strewn with stones, and beach chairs can be booked. However, the few beach chairs are often rented long-term. The second section for dogs is also interspersed with stones and algae and is located in the east of Meeschendorf beach in front of Camping Südstrand, approx. 600 meters from the car park. There is also a beach chair rental at the dog beach in Meeschendorf. A few restaurants are a few minutes' drive from this dog beach. Better than nothing, but more of a small dog beach. Is this beach really 100 m long as stated in a brochure?

The dog beach in Bojendorf is north of the campsite and about 200m south of the "Bojendorfer Strand" parking lot. Here you will find a pebble beach with coarse gravel and many large stones – a natural beach designated as a dog beach. As on the entire island of Fehmarn, dogs must be kept on a leash at Bojendorf dog beach. There is a beach bistro directly at the beach section, paid parking in the immediate vicinity, and toilets nearby.

Großenbrode Dog Beach

Located at the very tip of Lübeck Bay is the (officially leashed) dog beach. A natural beach without amenities such as beach chairs or beach cleaning. Bins only at the car park. Dogs love it, but owners have to explore the beach without any significant standards. In the separate area "Am Kai", dogs are allowed to be off-leash. There and in the promenade area, there are bag dispensers with dog waste bags and sufficient rubbish bins. From October to March, dogs are allowed on the South Beach. In addition to cliff sections and dikes on the West Beach, there are some secluded spots where you can often walk undisturbed along the coast with your dog.

Rettin Dog Beach

Rettin is also referred to as the tranquil haven of the Baltic Sea by several experts. However, sports and action-loving guests can also practice surfing or kiting at dedicated schools there. The dog beach in Rettin is located outside the beach promenade at beach access 23, directly at the campsite. The dog beach in Rettin is a very small, stony, and unclean beach section where dogs are allowed to move freely on the beach. Tourist tax is due despite the off-the-beaten-path location. Access is good via the paved hiking and cycling path to the beach section, although it takes a little longer to get there. Unfortunately, a visit to Rettin dog beach is not worthwhile.

Pelzerhaken Dog Beach 

The second dog beach in Pelzerhaken is located right next to the town of Neustadt on Lübeck Bay. The dog beach here is away from the main beach, at beach section 1, and there is a parking lot a few hundred meters away. Although very small, the dog beach is relatively centrally located (close to the main beach) and also has some beach chairs. Unfortunately, there are no showers on site. Otherwise, Pelzerhaken dog beach is clean and always well-frequented. Dogs can play and romp off-leash and go into the water – excellent!

Dog Beach in Neustadt in Holstein

Unfortunately, the dog beach in Neustadt in Holstein is not particularly well-developed or maintained. The small dog beach is located at beach section 16, near the Neustadt Clinic and the Südstrand Campsite. It is commendable that there is a beach section for dogs at all at the Neustadt Clinic. However, it is far too small and unkempt, with many algae and stones. Not far away is the most beautiful dog beach in Lübeck Bay, in Grömitz. Better to go there!

The Sierksdorf dog beach is an absolute insider tip for those who like it a bit quieter in a small area. Sierksdorf is a popular seaside resort and especially known for the "Hansa-Park" amusement park. Since 2013, there has also been a beach promenade here. The dog beach is located in the northern part of Sierksdorf, near Hansa-Park. Along the way, there are always smaller bathing coves, which are ideal for a quiet and relaxed swim with your dog. Despite being subject to a fee, Sierksdorf dog beach is natural. Algae, stones, and shell fragments are abundant in the shore area, but there are shaded spots. The stones make it difficult not only for owners to go into the water, but also for dogs when they romp around exuberantly. Wear bathing shoes! If you don't mind the stones and splinters, you will have a nice day with your dog on the beach here. Beach chairs can be rented, parking is rather expensive. Overall, the beach has few visitors.

Scharbeutz & Haffkrug Dog Beach

The Haffkrug dog beach is the main dog beach, located at beach section 31 near Gösebek. The dog beach is very beautiful and truly clean. Here you can rent beach chairs (overpriced), while your four-legged friends romp around freely. The dog beach is delimited by a small wooden fence. The dog beach in Scharbeutz is fine-sandy and offers various leisure and water sports opportunities. The water slopes gently, and the shore area is ideal for romping. The shallow water area is stone-free up to 20 meters. On sunny days, the beach is crowded, a bit quieter as soon as the sun goes down. A kiosk and sanitary facilities are available. Difficulties arise with regard to accessibility for sanitary facilities. A barrier at the entrance to the dog beach would be nice, as the busy road in front could pose a danger.

The second dog beach section is located at section 4. Another great beach section for dogs. Near the Scharbeutz dog beach are the high ropes course and the Ostsee Therme.

The many paths off the beach invite families and their four-legged friends to explore the surroundings and enjoy the natural, idyllic routes. In the large forest enclosure between Scharbeutz and Pönitz, dogs can romp, dig, and enjoy nature off-leash on the peninsula. A day trip with your dog to Timmendorfer Strand is just the right thing for a short break in Lübeck. At the nearby Scharbeutzer Heide, there are an additional 18 hectares of pure happiness for dogs. Picnic tables and clean sanitary facilities invite you to a day trip here.

The Timmendorfer Strand dog beach is a clean dog beach that will bring a lot of joy to four-legged friends despite its small width. This dog beach is characterized by soft sand without stones, and it is also litter-free. Tourist tax applies. The path into the water is shallow, so you can slowly walk into the water with your dog to romp around. Especially small dogs can walk far into the water without having to swim immediately. Sufficient beach chairs are available for rent. Toilets are directly at the beach access, parking is difficult. During the season, the dog beach is quite crowded, characterized by lots of dogs having fun.

The well-known Baltic Sea resort of Niendorf has a dog beach directly at the harbor entrance to Niendorf Harbor. During the season, parking spaces are rather rare. You should park near the spa promenade or the "An der Acht" park. The Niendorf dog beach is very clean and well-maintained, and there is no leash requirement. The beach slopes gently into the sea, ideal for small dogs. The white sand is soft and clean. Toilets, a dog shower, and a snack bar (Bude 8) are available. In high season, it can get crowded quickly. It's worth coming here with dogs, even if the beach could be larger.

Travemünde Dog Beach I & Priwall Dog Beach II

The resort town of Travemünde has two dog beaches. Dog Beach Travemünde is far from the tourist center, while the much better dog beach is on the Priwall.

Dog Beach in Travemünde I

The dog beach in Travemünde I is located 100 meters behind the former seaside resort Mövenstein, unfortunately a bit off the tourist center. The dog beach is where no tourist wants to swim, i.e. in the furthest corner, a good distance from the spa beach and very rich in stones. At the beginning there is a large off-leash area for romping, but without access to the water or only via wooden walkways, which dogs should better not be allowed to enter. The sandy beach is bordered towards the water by the Söhrmanndamm. For dogs, there is therefore an extra private bathing pier. In plain language, the water is only accessible to dogs via a pier, otherwise there are large stones everywhere on the shore! Teach dogs to climb beforehand. For this, driftwood is available on the beach as seating. The dog beach is not for boisterous dogs, small dogs, or non-swimmers. On the stony dog beach there are neither restaurants nor toilets, parking spaces are about 100 meters away. In high season, it is not so crowded in the evenings and the sunset there is absolutely worth seeing.

Dog Beach Travemünde II: Dog Beach on Priwall

The second, larger and actual dog beach Travemünde is located on Priwall. A popular swimming beach in summer, subject to a fee. However, the dog beach divides between lovers and non-lovers, read why:

First, the dog beach is not free, nor is it particularly cheap. An automatic machine is located directly at each beach entrance. The first few meters to the dog beach lead past the harbor entrance for large ships, especially passenger ferries. Diesel is in the air, heavy oil in the water. Past the algae mountains and the smell of diesel, the beach becomes extensive. The beach turns out to be a fine, white dog beach with a shallow entry into the adjacent water. Here at Priwall dog beach, long beach walks with a dog are possible. The path leads through different sections:

• In the harbor area, residents of the adjacent modern holiday park often stay,
• followed by residents of the other provider's holiday homes with simple, inexpensive accommodations, and
• further east are campers and plot residents.
• The dog beach is in the middle, which guests from the right and left don't necessarily know.
• And towards the former border, how could it be otherwise, there is also a nudist area. By the way, the nudist (gay) section will soon close, which might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The Priwall dog beach is a dream for dogs, spacious with shallow water access and little current. Brilliant for all water dogs. Trees in the background provide shade. The Priwall dog beach is a dog beach where dogs finally have space to play. It could be a little cleaner for the owner, but the dogs don't mind. Dogs can romp here off-leash. An idyllic dune strip is in front, WCs are new and clean. Sanitary facilities can be found at individual access points, as well as providers of culinary offerings. There are also play opportunities for children, soccer and beach volleyball with intact nets. Many families with small children but no dog use the dog beach because of the beach access and family offerings, and are often bothered by the dogs romping off-leash on the dog beach. Unfortunately, this is due to the access points and the holiday apartment structure and diminishes the charm of the dog beach.

Partially, during summer, the Priwall dog beach has supervised bathing, sometimes also available for dogs. In contrast to the main beach in Travemünde, there is only one beach chair rental service here so far, and beach chairs are unfortunately not available in many zones. Similarly, water points for dogs, dog showers, and a kiosk are missing. There is no car traffic that could be dangerous for dogs. Conversely, there are hardly any parking spaces along the beach, so in high season it is worth parking on the mainland and taking the ferry to cross over. This, in turn, costs for the crossing.

One drawback of the Priwall dog beach is the ships entering and leaving, especially the large Scandinavian ferries. Beware, the large ships can cause a suction that can carry away small dogs on the shore. Owners please pay special attention to small dogs here.

For a holiday with a dog in Wismar Bay, there are several good dog beaches and other beaches as attractions of the Baltic Sea with water sports activities and playgrounds. Popular holiday destinations in Wismar Bay include Beckerwitz, Boltenhagen, Wismar and Wohlenberger Wiek. Adventure pools, castles and palaces, amusement parks and nature reserves offer excursion destinations, also with dogs. Pasture land and salt marshes can be found here, landscapes that can be used for long walks with the dog.

In the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen, dog owners can expect three dog beaches. During peak season (May 15th to September 15th), dogs are allowed on the designated dog beaches in the Redwisch district, at beach access 1 up to the Klützer Bachauslauf, or Tarnewitz.

• The dog beach in the Redewisch district is a natural beach at the beginning of the cliff. Directly at the dog beach there is a paid parking lot and a fish snack bar. A public toilet and dog waste bag dispenser can also be found here.
• The second dog beach in Boltenhagen is located between beach access 1 and the Klützer Bachauslauf. Centrally located, dog owners will find a strip of sand suitable for playing, relaxing and swimming. Directly behind the dune is the restaurant Deichläufer. There is also a paid toilet here.
• The dog beach in the Tarnewitz district (beach access 21-22) is one of the widest beach sections in Boltenhagen. Here you will find beach chair rentals and a fish restaurant with a snack bar. At beach access 20, there is also a public toilet with a dog waste bag dispenser.

In the off-season, between September 15th and May 15th, families, couples, and solo travelers can explore the main dog beach, about 20 km west of Wismar, with their dogs. At the main beach, vacationers and their four-legged family members will find classic Baltic Sea fish restaurants, sanitary facilities, and can rent beach chairs to relax on the beach. The comfortable beach chairs at the dog beach offer a romantic retreat for couples during a short break with their dog on the Baltic Sea.

Dog Beach Boltenhagen-Tarnewitz

The paid dog beach Tarnewitz is about 200 meters wide, white, gently sloping, the water is warm and has no waves. It goes gently into the water and you don't have to worry about your four-legged friend getting hurt on stones. Ideal for small dogs who want to test the water. The beach is well-maintained and within a few minutes there is a WC, parking spaces are plentiful and within walking distance. The parking meter is available at affordable parking fees. Overall, it is a very nice, clean beach, beach chairs are also affordable. Overall, it is the most beautiful dog beach in Boltenhagen with well-maintained beach chairs.

The dog beach Wohlenberg is located in Wohlenberger Wiek in Wismar Bay in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This beautiful sandy beach offers a fantastic view of the Weiße Wiek. The natural beach is not supervised, and no resort tax is levied. The bay features many shallow water zones with a water depth of less than one meter and a long, flat sandy coast with many dunes. Towards the pier, it quickly becomes deep. The wide and fine sandy beach section is ideal for a holiday with a dog, if it weren't for the leash requirement. Behind the beach, the cliff coast follows directly, with narrow rock strips, and adjacent forest. Shade is provided by the trees on the beach. Sufficient parking is available. After a long walk, a small refreshment can be enjoyed at the snack bar in the immediate vicinity of the beach. Unfortunately, dog showers or water points are not available.

Beckerwitz Dog Beach

The Beckerwitz dog beach is a fine sandy natural beach, with individual stony areas. Here there is a snack bar and a café in the immediate vicinity. The beach is not intensively managed, so it does not offer facilities for food/drinks and toilets. The beach section for dogs begins at the cliff east of the campsite and ends at the northern tip of Hohes Wieschendorfer Huk. In all other beach sections, dogs are prohibited. The WCs and showers are not public. Visiting the dog beach here is not worthwhile.

Poel Island is located in Wismar Bay in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Germany's seventh largest island is accessible from the mainland via a causeway and offers many attractive leisure activities such as horse riding, sailing, golf, and various events.

Dog Beach Timmendorf (Poel Island)

Dogs are generally welcome guests on the island of Poel, or so they say. This dog beach degrades dog owners to second-class guests, although the same beach fee applies. Unfortunately, the dog beach is so far from the main beach that it is unacceptable for vacationers to have to visit it. The dog beach has to be shared with surfers, kiters, and small sailboats, so you have to be careful when swimming with your dog. There are no beach chairs for rent. Water sports facilities are available. Restaurants are located outside – then with spacious sun terraces. In the background, the old lighthouse provides the right flair. Here you could enjoy a beach holiday with your dog stress-free, if the beach weren't so far out. Between October 1st and April 30th, dogs are allowed to romp around to their heart's content, sniff the area and let off steam at the Timmendorf dog beach. During this time, there is no leash requirement for our four-legged family members. During the season, the leash requirement is introduced.

Timmendorf dog beach is a beautiful dog beach, dogs can go really far into the water, it's clean and the sand is soft.

The paid dog beach section is located here in the western part of the sandy beach. A beautiful beach - both for small children and for dogs. Sand somewhat coarse. The water is warmer than elsewhere. Due to the offshore sandbank, the beach section is not necessarily suitable for swimming, but great for splashing and walking in the water. Ideal for small dogs. Deep water only comes far after the sandbank. Between the beach and the sandbank, there are some plants and masses of algae - but there are always clear paths somewhere. The bottom was a bit muddy. Not really suitable for swimming, but certainly great for dogs. The beach is clean and quiet. Unfortunately, the parking lot is located at the beginning of the village of Gollwitz, so you have to walk a significant distance with all your gear. Unfortunately, no trash cans or dog waste bags on site.

Toilets are only available at the main beach. There is a parking lot about 500 meters away. From June to September, the beaches are monitored by the German Life Saving Society (DLRG). As at most dog beaches, there are dog waste bag dispensers at the beach entrance.

Via the Haffpromenade you reach the beautiful and clean dog beach at the pier in Rerik. Many cozy restaurants invite you to linger from afar and create a pleasant atmosphere. This dog beach convinces with its fine sandy beach and is monitored by the DLRG. The quiet, small village on the Baltic Sea coast is perfect for a short family holiday. In itself a very beautiful beach - unfortunately it is very short and quickly too crowded during the season. The beach is mainly visited by guests without dogs, which leads to difficulties on the small area. Parking fees are above average. Unfortunately, no dog waste bags or containers are available on the beach. For dogs, a great experience, for owners less so - a bit far from everything, no beach chairs or catering. Despite the general leash requirement, this beach is suitable for a short visit to Rerik on the beach.

The second dog beach in Rerik is located at the so-called Teufelsschlucht (Devil's Gorge). It is much quieter, and dogs can run freely and enjoy their vacation on the rather stony beach. However, this dog beach at exit 9 can quickly be forgotten... Stones, stones, stones...

The popular seaside resort of Kühlungsborn is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea coast. Here you will find Germany's longest beach promenade and a 240-meter-long pier that extends into the Baltic Sea.

There are three dog beaches in Kühlungsborn:

• The first Kühlungsborn dog beach is located directly on the main beach of Kühlungsborn and is known for its excellent water quality.
• The dog beach at the marina is accessible via a metal staircase. The rather stony dog beach section is located next to the nude beach of Kühlungsborn.
• The third dog beach in Kühlungsborn is a beautiful sandy beach behind the spa clinic and east of the Concert Garden West. The fine sandy and largely natural beach has a relatively shallow entry into the water and is therefore well suited for dogs. The designated dog beach section is section 26.

With the three designated dog beaches, Kühlungsborn has done itself no favors. The dog beaches are among the smallest dog beaches we visited in the test. A large dog takes three jumps and is out of the dog beach area. All other beach sections were empty, only the dog beach was overcrowded. Understandable with so little space. Even the FKK beach is larger. The owner has to walk about 500 meters to the parking lot. Trash cans were not to be found on the beach, so it was accordingly dirty, although the Kühlungsborn dog beaches are cleaned daily in the high season. It is interesting that there is no leash requirement on any of the 3 dog beaches. Overall, Kühlungsborn is not recommended for a holiday with a dog, neither for small nor large dogs who want to have some fun romping and swimming on the Baltic Sea beach with their owners.

Börgerende-Rethwisch Dog Beach

Börgerende-Rethwisch is located on the Baltic Sea coast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and on Lake Conventer See, a former sea bay with a variety of swamp and waterfowl. The dog beach is practically unmissable, as it is located immediately next to a former watchtower of the GDR border security. The water on the long sandy beach is rather shallow and therefore also well suited for children. The sandy beach is mixed with stones. Many visitors without dogs frequent the dog beach. Few dogs and many visitors who don't like dogs or are afraid of dogs. A mix that deprives the dog beach of its function. The dog beach is best reached by bike or by taking a long walk. Parking for a fee, the parking lot is far away. The journey is not worth it for the dog beach.

The European cycling and hiking trail runs through Nienhagen. The beach in Nienhagen has a specially designated dog beach section, which extends westward to Börgerende. It is a beautiful natural beach with a cliff. The approximately 800-meter-long beach is stony, but has dog toilets for our four-legged friends. The dog beach is really beautiful scenically and not too crowded. It's nice to linger here and enjoy nature. Unsuitable for swimming due to the stones. Also not suitable for dogs to romp around due to the massive number of stones. No seating on the beach, except on the stones. It smelled very strongly of old fish, many mosquitoes present. Seen from Nienhagen, the dog beach is far from everything, at least you walk through the beautiful Gespensterwald (Ghost Forest).

The Warnemünde beach stretches for about 15 kilometers and is partly over 100 meters wide. Designated dog beach sections, west of Warnemünde, are located between beach accesses 32 and 33, as well as 36 and 37. East of Warnemünde, between sections 10, 11, and 12. All are beautiful sandy beaches where you can go to the water with your four-legged friend even in high season. In some places there are sharp-edged shells, so you should be a little careful. You have to provide your own shade. You should also bring your own water for the dog. Parking was a bit difficult. There is no snack bar and no public toilets! Unfortunately, a lot of garbage washes up from the sea and it smells strongly in summer. If you walk towards Markgrafenheide, it gets cleaner and more beautiful. Important: On the main bathing beach (up to beach access 21), there is a leash requirement all year round.

The fine-grained sandy beach at beach access 37 is a designated dog beach without a general leash requirement. There are toilets, restaurants and cafes within an acceptable radius of 1000 meters. A parking lot is within walking distance. The fine-grained sandy beach is free of charge and the beach is equipped with a dog bag dispenser, a toilet and a snack stand at the parking lot. Leash compulsion does not exist, but is desired. In the off-season from October to April, dogs are allowed on all beach sections - leash compulsion only applies to the main bathing beach (beach access 21).

The Baltic Sea resort of Graal-Müritz is located in the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea coast. Graal-Müritz is a popular destination for a short break on the Baltic Sea with a dog, as there are leisure attractions for families. Graal-Müritz has three dog beaches, all of which require dogs to be on a leash. From May 1st to September 30th, dogs are only allowed on these sections of the beach. In the pre-season and off-season, dogs can be taken to all beach areas of our community.

The Graal-Müritz dog beach consists of a section of the fine, white sandy beach in Graal-Müritz. Although the dog beach is a bit stony here and there, it is currently cleaned every 2 days during the main season. Each beach section for dogs was accordingly clean. The dune ridge is scenically attractive. The dog beach is not overcrowded and easily accessible. More trash cans at the beach entrance could be provided.

Wustrow Dog Beach

The paid dog beach Wustrow is located between beach access points 8 and 9. Dogs must be kept on a leash at the dog beach here. The beach section at Wustrow dog beach is beautiful and wide (approx. 30 meters), with plenty of space. During high season, a beverage, ice cream, and snack cart sometimes passes by. The beach, the forest, and the surrounding areas must be kept clean by the owner. Dog waste bag dispensers are available at several locations and should be used here. From October 1st to April 30th, the entire beach is accessible to dogs. Sufficient restrooms for two-legged visitors are available. Beach chairs can be rented daily from 10 am at the kiosk on the beach promenade. Especially in the off-season April/May and September/October, the dog beach is not overcrowded and perfect for relaxing. Unfortunately, the parking lot is far away, so arriving with luggage is a bit difficult.

Ahrenshoop Dog Beach I & II

Ahrenshoop beach is divided into several sections, including two designated dog beaches. They are located between beach access points 2 and 3, north of the seasonal stairs at Hohes Ufer and south of beach access point 13. However, dogs must be kept on a leash on all dog beaches. During the season from May 1st to September 30th, the Baltic Sea resort has established these two dog beaches as the sole access points for holidays with dogs. The two dog beaches are located between Pramort and Prerow. In the off-season from October 1st to April 30th, the entire beach is accessible for your four-legged friend, but dogs must be leashed between beach access points 3 and 15 even in the off-season. Along the cliff, there is also a stone beach where you can walk and enjoy the peace and quiet, provided the beach section is not temporarily closed.

The central beach section between access 13 and 14 is very busy, even overcrowded, in summer. The dog beach can be accessed via "Grenzweg" or "Am Strom" road. However, the dog beach particularly impresses with its central location in the middle of Ahrenshoop. From the parking lot to the fresh market, it's just a four-minute walk to the Baltic Sea. On the approx. 100x30 meter beach section, the sandy beach is too small to be perfect for dogs, and there is a leash requirement here. However, the dog beach with its shallow entry into the water offers excellent conditions for a holiday with a dog at the dog beach in Ahrenshoop. On the beach, it is possible to rent a typical Baltic Sea beach chair and enjoy the sunset. A variety of cafes, restaurants and classic fish stalls provide for the physical well-being at the dog beach in Ahrenshoop. In less than 5 minutes, you can reach the beautiful beach section from a centrally located parking lot and enjoy a short holiday with your dog here.

Between Ahrenshoop and Born, there is another dog beach that is not overcrowded even in summer. The dog beach behind the Darß Forest is an absolute insider tip among dog beaches and impresses with its white, fine-grained coastal beach in untouched nature. From the "Drei Eichen" parking lot, the path first leads through the national park and Darß Forest, past old beech trees and huge oak trees. On one of the many paths, you reach the West Beach after about a 15-minute walk. Lots of driftwood and space offer ample opportunities for sniffing, digging, romping, and collecting sticks.

Zingst Dog Beach I & II

The kilometers-long, white sand beach lies in front of a lush green dune and looks like something out of the South Seas at first glance. This could be a picture-perfect dog holiday. Four-legged friends could look forward to 15 kilometers of the best sandy beach, which gently and shallowly slopes into the sea. A dog beach with excellent bathing quality. Unfortunately, during the season (May 1st to September 30th), dogs are only allowed access to two small beach sections in the Baltic Sea resort of Zingst. On good weather days, it can get quite crowded. In the off-season (October 1st to April 30th), the entire beach is accessible to your four-legged friend. Regardless of the off-season or main season, dogs must be kept on a leash at the dog beach, so playing and romping on the beach is unfortunately not possible. One dog beach is located west of the pier at beach section 15b, the other at beach access 3a Straminke.

A tourist tax is due for humans and dogs, and parking is also subject to a fee. At beach access 3a, there are only 70 paid parking spaces. It's not far to the paid beach, but 45 minutes to the town center. At beach access 15b, there are about 20 paid parking spaces. Here it's about a one-minute walk to the beach and 15 minutes to the town center. On all public parking lots, there is a night parking ban from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Dog waste bags are available free of charge in town. Toilets and trash cans are partially available. There is no snack bar or similar nearby. In season, an ice cream vendor comes by in the early evening. For young people and dogs, the beach is acceptable, but for older people and older dogs, the dog beach is too far away.

Rügen Island

Almost all seaside resorts on Rügen Island have designated dog beaches and beach sections for four-legged friends. On these beach sections, dogs can swim and happily roll in the sand with other dogs. They can help build sandcastles and splash in the Baltic Sea waves. Most resorts on Rügen have natural beaches designated for dog owners, away from the tourist centers.

Hiddensee Dog Beach

Hiddensee largely consists of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park and is a sensitive habitat for now rare animals and plants. Rare bird species use the region as a breeding and rearing ground. Therefore, leashing is compulsory here and there is a special request to keep an eye on curious four-legged friends. Hiddensee is rather dog-unfriendly. For dogs brought along, a stay fee of €0.50 per day must be paid year-round, regardless of the travel season (max. €12.00 per year as an annual stay fee). In the months from May 1st to September 30th, dogs are prohibited on the specially marked beach sections of the districts of Kloster, Vitte, and Neuendorf. It should be noted that the dog beach in the summer months is not in front of Vitte, but only from the dike towards Neuendorf. The path along the Bodden is better towards Kloster than the stretch of beach from the National Park House. The natural beach is very extensive but poorly signposted; many holidaymakers have failed to find the dog beach. Hiddensee is not a travel recommendation for dog holidays.

The dog beach section in Nonnevitz is located in the north of the Wittow peninsula, near Kap Arkona and the Wieder Bodden. Unfortunately, the dog beach is somewhat more secluded than the Google description indicates (about 1.8 kilometers from the parking lot). Unfortunately, you have to plan for about a 30-minute walk from the parking lot. Between Nonnevitz and the Baltic Sea dog beach, there is a popular campsite where dogs are also allowed - you can use this as a reference point.

The dog beach has a shallow, fine sandy beach and is ideal for dogs. A very beautiful, clean dog beach. One of the most beautiful sandy beaches on Rügen, long and quiet. Behind it lies the coastal forest Scharbe with magnificent old beech trees. The beach is very clean, there are few algae visible in the sea. There are hardly any stones lying around and the number of visitors to the dog beach is low. The cliff in the background provides some shade in midsummer.

For older dog owners and senior dogs, it should be noted: the dog beach can only be reached via an extremely steep staircase (or you walk through the dog-free zone). The steps are very narrow and dogs can be afraid to use the stairs. How are people or dogs supposed to walk there?… This staircase is a safety risk for humans and animals.

Breege-Julisruh Dog Beach

Breege-Juliusruh beach offers a dog beach to the left of the main beach. The fine sandy dog beach offers little space for dogs, but good water quality. Isolated sections are mixed with stones in the shore area. The very short dog beach (limited to approx. 200m) is heavily enriched with algae. The town has defined the dog beach as a natural beach where the algae are not removed. This creates a huge, stinking pile of seaweed on the beach, which is not cleared away even in high season. The water, with its algae flood, resembles a muddy hole. Getting into the water is difficult; no one knows where they are stepping, fishing hooks included. It smells enormously disgusting, and mosquitoes are also abundant. On the beach section next to the dog beach, the algae are removed; here the natural beach ends. Dog owners are simply second-class guests in Breege-Juliusruh.

Officially, there is no leash requirement here, but it is recommended due to the many animals if your dog has a hunting drive. At the beach, you can try exotic water sports like jet-skiing and surfing. Fun for the whole family. Unfortunately, there is no bistro or public restrooms nearby. Unfortunately, no beach chairs. There are plenty of paid parking spaces at the entrance to the town. There are plenty of waste bins for rubbish.

Glowe Dog Beach

The municipality of Glowe is located in the northern part of the Baltic Sea island of Rügen. The beach in Glowe has a nearly 2-kilometer-long beach promenade and a large spa facility. The surroundings are ideal for hiking, horseback riding, or cycling tours. The dog beach section is located at the outer end of Glowe and has ample paid parking. From there, it's 100-150m to the beach. According to a sign, leashes are compulsory here even on dog beach sections 11 + 12, but this is not further observed.

The sand at the dog beach is wonderfully fine and clean. Depending on the season, algae can wash ashore, leading to unpleasant odors and mud. When playing, a lot of sand is stirred up and the dogs get "breaded". After swimming, when returning to the blanket, fine sand is scattered everywhere when shaking. Dogs have a lot of fun at Glowe dog beach. The dog beach is easily accessible via a beautiful forest path that runs parallel to the beach. The dog beach is a bit secluded, allowing dogs to run and swim freely. There are plenty of beach chairs to rent at the dog beach. Bag dispensers and trash cans are sufficiently available; if you forget your bags, you'll find them here. A nice beach for families with dogs that is not overcrowded. The only drawback is the opening hours of the snack bars; especially after an extended evening walk, a visit here would be great, but everyone was closed by 6:00 PM.

Prora Dog Beach

The shallow dog beach in Prora is located at the outer end of the beach facility. Beach sections 73 and 74 up to the pier are designated dog beaches. In high season, the dog beach in Prora is very crowded, as the beach sections are also used by families. Parking is available nearby for a high fee. The location in front of the monumental complex, which is undergoing modernization, is as unique as it is impressive. The separating fringe of pine forest wonderfully enriches the air with the scent of pine and offers ample shade in summer. The sand at Prora dog beach is white and fine, almost like in the Caribbean. Stones are hardly found here in the sand. The dog beach is impeccably maintained, with a trash can every few meters.

Prora dog beach is one of the nicer dog beaches on the Baltic Sea, even if the access paths are not optimal and the signage is missing. If you walk too far, you realize that the FKK beach is right next to it. Dogs can go far into the water and it is relatively algae-free. For toilets or gastronomy, you also have to walk a bit; they are located in the renovated parts of the Prora complex.

Dog beach II: This dog beach is located at the outer end of Binz and there is no leash requirement. The dog beach at the fishing beach is rather small and very stony, with rough stones. In historically significant Peenemünde, you will find the Peenemünde Historical-Technical Museum (HTM) and the Peenemünde Maritime Museum with the submarine "Juliett U-461". The dog beach is located slightly outside Peenemünde on the L264 from Karlshagen to Peenemünde. Parking is available on the L264. There are restrooms but no restaurants near the beach.

Karlshagen Dog Beach

Karlshagen dog beach is located between Trassenheide and Peenemünde. The beautiful, 80-meter-wide sandy beach is particularly popular with families with small children, as the water is very shallow for the first 100 meters and there is a large children's playground there. Since 2000, Karlshagen has hosted the Usedom Beach Cup, one of the largest beach volleyball tournaments in Europe. You can reach the Baltic Sea resort of Karlshagen by car via Wolgast. Parking is available nearby, approx. 700 meters away. Beach sections 10L + 10K are designated dog beaches.

Once the car is safely parked in the parking lot or overflow lot, the path leads past all sorts of sweet temptations. Within a few steps, there are four (!) ice cream stalls, crêpes & waffles, cotton candy, milkshakes, sweets & candies, and pizza. The offer is specifically aimed at families on camping holidays. Playgrounds accompany the path to the dog beach.

At the beach entrance, resort cards and tickets for dogs can be obtained. The machine was broken during our visit and caused overpayments. We paid again to the beach attendant, without a refund. Typical Usedom.

The path to the dog beach suggests fine, white sand:

The sand at Karlshagen dog beach is fine, white, and velvety soft - but the dog beach is far too small. Barely 200 meters without a significant interaction area for dogs. Beach chairs are not available in sufficient numbers. Shells line the beach area.

If you look around the dog beach in Karlshagen, you will find a variety of signs for dog owners. The beach attendant ensures all rules are followed, regularly using a loudspeaker. First and foremost, the leash requirement is enforced. Drag leashes or retractable leashes are forbidden at Karlshagen dog beach. Dog owners may go into the water with a short leash. Thus, you see owners on the end of a leash, stumbling into the water behind their Labrador to keep up with a ball game, using a short leash. If a dog owner with a leashed dog enters the area behind the dog beach, the beach loudspeaker sounds again. "Folks, not like that!"

At Karlshagen dog beach, many children pass through the dog interaction zone, not all with due consideration for the four-legged friends. There is no beach bar, water stations, or dog showers.

The guest structure is predominantly in the "budget tourism" segment. Karlshagen dog beach has nothing in common with a relaxing dog holiday, hence a clear "not recommended."

Trassenheide Dog Beach

Zinnowitz Dog Beach

The resort of Zinnowitz with its associated Zinnowitz dog beach is located in the north of the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, between Zinnowitz and Koserow. This is the narrowest point connecting the Baltic Sea with the Achterwasser lagoon. The small resort on Usedom has had a beautiful promenade since 2011, with a children's playground, restaurants, toilets, and some parking spaces.

The Zinnowitz dog beach is fine sand and gently sloping. It is clean here. The vegetation provides shady spots. The beach slopes gently into the water, so dogs can play well in the water. Here, dogs can meet other dogs off-leash.

The dog beach is located near a nudist beach section. Both groups of visitors can meet here again. Overall, the dog beach is just under 200 meters wide, which is a pity, as the coastline could offer so much more for four-legged friends. The dog beach also ends with the beach chairs, although the coastline extends much further here. Why four-legged friends are not allowed to move here is unclear to dog holidaymakers.

Snack bars and restaurants can be found in the village itself; there is no beach bar on the beach. Many bad restaurants in Zinnowitz focus on tourist traps. It's particularly worth checking online restaurant reviews before visiting. Especially around Neue Strandstraße, you should avoid restaurants.

Paid parking is available opposite the beach access. In addition to the parking ticket, you can also purchase the spa card here. From there, it's just a few meters, past the historic villa, to the beach entrance.

A dog-friendly wooden boardwalk leads along the dunes to the dog beach section. The sand is white, soft, and clean. The beach slopes gently into the water.

The dog beach is about 200 meters long and less wide than other dog beaches on the island. The beach can be described as a leashed dog beach. The leash requirement is strictly enforced here. In short, law and order prevail here, and the leash requirement is also controlled. The beach is very clean and well-maintained, and plenty of trash cans are available.

The dog beach in Koserow is a perfect destination to sit peacefully in a beach chair with your dog. Plenty of beach chairs are available. The Koserow dog beach is not a dog beach for romping, playing, or social interaction. The Koserow dog beach is more of a family beach with a trampoline and bouncy castle, where dogs are tolerated.

In addition to various children's play areas, volleyball courts are also available.

The Koserow dog beach sees itself as a family beach for Baltic Sea holidays with children and dogs, not primarily as a destination for dog holidays. Accordingly, cheap and simple gastronomy is available immediately near the beach entrance. Here you'll find fries, ice cream, and all sorts of other unhealthy food that children love. For adults, there is a fish stall that is only conditionally recommended.

The replica of a historical fishing village with all sorts of smoked fish stalls is beautifully designed. Here, the selection is large and the quality, measured against the low standard on the island of Usedom itself, is adequate.

Families and groups can enjoy lively evenings in a cozy atmosphere here. There is ample seating at every stand.

Smoked fish is at the top of the menu, but that's not all. The drink selection is both traditional and modern, and widely diverse. The facility is cozy and charming. Dogs are allowed everywhere.

If you leave the artificial world created for budget tourism, a longer stroll along the promenade is worthwhile. It is lined with countless buildings in the spa architecture of the Renaissance style, which give the resort its true flair.

Kölpinsee/Loddin Dog Beach

Ückeritz Dog Beach

The Ückeritz dog beach is located in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. The campsite's parking lot is the best place to park your car. By the way, dogs are also allowed at the campsite. Designated beach accesses are 4A, 4E, and 4Z. Here, there is also a free parking lot on Strandstraße.

From the central car park, the path leads into the holiday village with everything children could wish for. Affordable gastronomy with ice cream, fries, and sweets. In addition, cheap offers of cocktails, coffee, and sheet cake. In the holiday village, there is also a fisherman's fish stall. The fish rolls would fail on Sylt, but they are quite acceptable for Usedom.

The village offers all the bells and whistles for a budget Usedom holiday: souvenirs, beach accessories, and bicycle rental. You shouldn't necessarily expect quality here.

After passing through the holiday village, you'll find the beach access. To the dog beach, turn left along the path.

If you take the official beach access, plastic pathways with holes guide owner and dog to the dog beach. Since the holes are not pleasant for paws, it is worth choosing the side entrance to the dog beach or, illegally, walking along the beach.

At the two rather good restaurants (fish restaurant & Italian restaurant) with great views, the private path leads down to the dog beach. Ückeritz dog beach has fine sand and only a few stones. A tourist tax is levied during the summer season.

The dog beach is 200-300 meters long and not very busy. The sand slopes gently into the water. Since there is a long stretch of nothing after the end of the dog beach – where the beach chairs stop – it hardly matters whether you are outside the Ückeritz dog beach with your dog. Likewise, at this secluded beach section of Ückeritz, no one checked compliance with the leash requirement.

The beach section after the Ückeritz dog beach is ideal for long, solitary walks with a dog. In the later FKK (nudist) zone, the dog should be put back on a leash.

As an alternative to the main entrance, the panoramic access to the dog beach via these stairs is also possible.

Bansin Dog Beach (Insider Tip!)

The dog beach in Bansin is located somewhat outside the village, west of the seaside resort of Bansin. Approximately at the level of the Langender Forester's Lodge, you'll find the fine sand dog beach section.

The drive to the Bansin dog beach is adventurous: the unpaved, narrow, and winding road climbs up the cliff. Along sparsely visible ridges, pedestrians and cyclists must be watched out for at walking speed. Doubts about the correct navigation route arise. After about 10 minutes of exciting driving, you reach your destination. The parking lot of the Langender Forester's Lodge is about 100 meters away on the plateau. Parking at the Langender Forester's Lodge is subject to a fee, and drivers are directed to a parking space. The exceptional view from the plateau here is well worth the price for a car park. Cleared vegetation allows panoramic views, directly on the cliff. This is the optimal spot for a holiday photo!

Now follow the dirt path down. After about 5 minutes of forest path, you reach these steep stairs.

The planks of the stairs are unfortunately uneven and have oversized gaps, so it is better to carry small and old dogs. Once at the bottom, you are rewarded with a white, fine sandy beach. The vastness of the beach is astonishing.

The Bansin dog beach is about 200 meters to the left of the stairs. To the right is the nudist beach. Regardless of whether you go right or left with your dog on the Bansin dog beach, dogs can be found in all beach areas, not just on the dog beach.

Bansin dog beach (midday in the summer season)

The sea at Bansin dog beach slopes gently, so the water is wonderfully warm. A few pebbles can be found at the water's edge. Ideal for dogs to play in the water. Even 100 meters out to sea, the water only reaches knee-deep.

The atmosphere here is relaxed and easy-going - leash laws are as little observed as the regulations for designated dog or nudist beach areas. A pleasant atmosphere for everyone who appreciates a relaxed and informal approach to their dog vacation. In general, this section of the beach is not very crowded even in mid-summer - after all, who would take on such an adventurous journey? If both dog and owner are good walkers, this section of the beach can be reached by a long beach walk from Bansin and Ückeritz.

The sand beach is wonderfully clean, with trash cans at short intervals.

Poop bag dispensers can only be found at the tourist office; they are not available on the beach, nor are water stations or dog showers.

The beautiful and fine sandy dog beach stretches between the imperial resorts of Heringsdorf and Bansin. At the height of the Sackkanal, dog owners can enjoy their dog vacation undisturbed with their dog. Here at Heringsdorf dog beach, dogs can run and have plenty of space to sniff, dig and discover. Beach sections 6H & 6I are designated dog beaches and free poop bags are available at the tourist information office and at the entrance to Heringsdorf dog beach.

The Heringsdorf dog beach is what you would expect from a dog beach on the Mediterranean: white sand, clean and spacious. The beach section for dogs is about 300 meters wide. Here you will find many playmates in a limited space. The water slopes gently. Heringsdorf dog beach is certainly livelier than other dog beaches on Usedom. The infrastructure here is of course also the best!

For dogs who love interaction, this is a great dog beach. Dogs can play together off-leash at Heringsdorf dog beach. That's how it should be! Leash laws are not enforced. Dogs who prefer comfort can watch the hustle and bustle from a beach chair with their owners. Beach chairs are plentiful. If toys are forgotten, the beach bar can help out for a fee. Here you'll find everything: from ice cream parlors and dog fetch balls to fried fish.

The promenade is only a few steps away. On the promenade of the Baltic Sea resort of Heringsdorf, there is everything a holidaymaker's heart desires: ice cream, drinks, beach accessories, snacks and fine dining.

There is a small point deduction because we would have liked dog showers and water stations. In Heringsdorf, one can expect that, as the Heringsdorf dog beach is the most important dog beach on the island.

Ahlbeck dog beach

Ahlbeck dog beach is located near the Polish border and is a relatively quiet place for sunbathing. By car, you can reach it from Ahlbeck towards the border. The border parking lot is on the right side. The beach is both a dog and nudist beach and can be perfectly reached from the border parking lot and via the coastal cycle path. Beach sections A1 - A3 at Ahlbeck dog beach are designated dog beaches and free poop bags are available at the Ahlbeck tourist information.

Crossing the road from the border parking lot, a forest path about 15 minutes long begins. The path is bumpy, so sturdy footwear is ideal.

From Ahlbeck dog beach and along it, many different hiking trails are available. Likewise, well-developed cycling paths start from this point, unlike the path to the dog beach.

After about a kilometer, the forest path ends here:

Once on the beach, you are surprised by fine, white sand. Ahlbeck dog beach is spacious and extends almost to the border crossing. The dog beach in Ahlbeck is less busy than the Heringsdorf/Bansin dog beach; even the beach bar is not always open in summer.

Some dogs on the dog beach romped freely, without a leash. Other dogs were on a leash. Since Ahlbeck nudist beach and Ahlbeck dog beach mix here, not all visitors with dogs are on this section of the beach.

Many holidaymakers use the beach walk along these dog beach sections to cross the border into Poland. Accordingly, there is a high density of passers-by along the water, mostly without dogs. For dog lovers who want their dogs to play freely, Ahlbeck dog beach is not ideal. However, if you are looking for a quiet place with your dog on a leash or want to join the stream of visitors heading towards Poland, you are in good hands here, even with a dog.

The atmosphere at the dog beach is not bad overall due to its spaciousness. Beach chairs are available for rent. Dog showers and water stations would have been nice.

The Kamminke dog beach is located on the lagoon side, near Usedom Airport. The car can be parked well at the campsite near the holiday homes on the Haffküste Kamminke. From there, a panoramic path, adorned with flowers of all kinds, leads through the old fishing village. For amateur photographers and flower lovers, the path with a 12% incline is an experience.

The villagers are not pleased about visitors and express this unequivocally in Low German. Here, the tension on Usedom between island tourism, driven by large investors, and the values of a rural population in a structurally weak area becomes clear.

The water gently slopes into the lagoon. Even a few meters out, you can still stand well in the water. Leash laws also apply to dogs here, and visitors consistently adhere to them.

Since Usedom offers a variety of the most beautiful dog beaches in Germany, there is no real need to visit Kamminke dog beach.
